HOWARD GODBEE
Mr. Howard Godbee surfaced again when DWM was arrested for capital murder, again
claiming that he was SO NICE, and was a MODEL WORKER...
He again made the claim that DWM was not working for him at the time of the murder,
but admitted he'd taken Moore into our home.
"We were in and out in five minutes. It was a simple battery problem. I don't
think he ever worked on anything himself without me being there because he was
still being trained."
Godbee again claimed to have done a background check (although Channel 48 said he
DIDN'T) and that "nothing had come up to indicate a major criminal behavior."
The same article mentions that Moore pled guilty to 33 counts of issuing
worthless checks totalling 12,860 dollars during the very time he was working for
Godbee.
In his opening argument, Sherman Powell made the same bold print headline claim
Godbee had given the Daily 3 1/2 years before--that the alarm was NOT DISABLED.
It was a strange claim, since Godbee had actually admitted it was disabled before...just
not by HIS employee he was responsible for. It seems to me the defense lawyers were
reading old newspapers to get their claims, and forgot to actually read the articles...they
just stopped at the headline. But Powell claimed he could prove the alarm was NOT
DISABLED... ??? Did Daily Male Visitor write the script for him???
Howard Godbee came to the stand, and was put under oath.
He said DWM worked for him but he DIDN'T remember exact dates... but that he
worked for him APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR...(as opposed to three months with
exact termination date) He wasn't sure, but he thought DWM had been to our house
TWICE, but he had NO RECORD of it, and wasn't sure when...
He couldn't remember if DWM ever "went through the house."(DWM confirmed he did)
He didn't remember ME ever being there on a service call. (I have a better memory than
Howard Godbee)
Godbee admitted DWM had stolen a toolbox full of electrical tools from him when
he left work there. He identified it easily--it still had his AEA sticker on it when it was
seized by police and photographed. (DWM still had it, although he'd sold
everything else he had for crack cocaine)
Godbee admitted he once happened to come to the office late and discovered
DWM spending the night there, without permission. He'd given DWM access to
his security system office. (!!!)
Godbee claimed to have no records of anything from AEA, and had evidently not
provided them for 3 1/2 years, but had them for the second day of his testimony, when
it turned out I had my copy of the slip from the repair visit in question, and was actually
THERE...
He testified that the alarm keypads had been carefully removed by someone that
knew what they were doing, and that the alarm was obviously disabled. It was
disabled three or four different ways, including being unplugged from the AC outlet at
the main power supply in the master bedroom closet (not the attic, as he said twice on
the stand), the phone system was disabled to prevent access from a phone keypad, and
the backup battery was not working. EVERYTHING about the way the alarm was
disabled pointed directly at DWM.
Howard Godbee got two headline stories for lying and saying nice things about
DWM. When Howard Godbee testified Monday, November 11, the Daily thought
it a good day to not cover the trial at all. When he finished his testimony the next
day, they neglected to mention the fact that DWM WAS A THIEF and had
GODBEE'S TOOLBOX at the time of the murder... that he had been in the house
... that the statements printed and reprinted in the Daily had been absolute lies...
Instead, they said Karen had called him two days prior to the murder (rather than 2
weeks) and again quoted Godbee as saying DWM was a "good worker and customers
liked him."
