HOWARD GODBEE
Shortly thereafter, DWM half-confessed to the crime to his uncle, then half-killed
himself when asked about his knowledge of the crime by investigators.  Howard Godbee
had hired DWM, despite his history of an arrests for DUI, illegal alcohol, and marijuana
possession.  He had taken him inside homes (to do SECURITY WORK) all over
Decatur, and allowed him to work unsupervised there.

Further, our alarm had malfunctioned about two weeks prior to the murder, and we had
been waiting for AEA to repair it.
Karen was expecting someone from AEA to fix it.

And the last time they'd been there, DWM had been with Godbee.
So when DWM first hit the headlines, Mr. Godbee gave The Decatur Daily a long
interview, that included a
detailed description of key parts of a capital murder crime
scene
!!!
It also included a list of lies that were gleefully printed by the Daily, and passed on in an
"authoritative" article with "
expert" opinion of an eyewitness to the crime scene.
Perceptions were formed in that article that remain today, despite everything in
the article being slanted by Godbee, knowing HE was in very deep trouble.

So what did he say?
What was the public told about DWM?

That the killer
DIDN'T DISABLE HOME ALARM...
That DWM had worked for him
only from October to December 10, 1998...
He let DWM use him for a job reference when he quit.
He claimed DWM was qualified for security work because he'd worked a series of brief
jobs, never staying anywhere more than a few months.
He said DWM's background check showed
only a DUI and revoked license.
Godbee "hated to see him leave."
Godbee described him as "just a squared-away guy...
well liked."
Godbee said DWM was
NOT A THIEF...
Godbee said
he didn't remember when Karen had called to report the malfunction
and requested the repair.
Godbee said,
"I can assure you this, that the system was disabled, not by somebody
knowledgeable about alarm system, but by her or a family member due to
malfunction.
"
"There was no real damage to it."
"They were disabled by somebody not in a panic, but
by somebody trying to stop it
from malfunctioning
."
"I don't think whoever was there (the killer) disabled the system."
"I think the system was disabled by Mrs. Tipton in order to keep the keypad from
beeping until I could get out there on a service call."
I wish I could have got out there but
she's the one that cancelled the appointment."
"Their (investigator's) belief was the alarm system had been tampered with, which
it was not."
Godbee said Moore's connection to the crime scene is "not any different from that of
Mrs. Tipton's neighbors, her friends, other people she had business dealings with or even
the person who delivered her newspaper."
"He said the publicity could hurt his business."
"I have hundreds of customers who may question who I have working for me.
"
"Knowing him, he's a
nice kid."
"I don't think he stabbed himself because he's guilty of homicide."
The fact Howard Godbee was talking to the press about a capital murder crime
scene in an ongoing investigation is proof enough he is a fool
.  He was claiming to
provide security for us, and he hired DWM inappropriately, brought him into our home,
then lied repeatedly to the press to cover it up once his BOY was caught BEING A
THIEF...and suspected of being a heinous killer...
When Godbee was singing to Jonathan Garbage Baggs, DWM had just been charged
with felony second-degree theft, resisting arrest, reckless driving, reckless
endangerment, and attempting to flee and elude police.  He'd just confessed to
involvement in the murder to his uncle, and had stabbed himself repeatedly when
interrogated by police about Karen.
Godbee's lies were printed as gospel by the Daily, and were unchallenged by
anyone in the press.  Because everyone else was maintaining the integrity of the
investigation.
