The DWM Fan Club SPEAKS OUT!!!!
For over four years, vicious rumors have surrounded every aspect of Karen's death. The rumors were so widely believed, the defense lawyers used them in preference to an actual defense, and the newspaper printed Halbrooks' accusations as though they were fact--in order to vindicate their own twisted "investigation." In short, their lies matched. Now, anyone wishing to see the primary sources of the trash--and slander--can simply go to their forum and see for themselves... Linda Kubina, President, DWM fan club and David W. Kelley, Poet Laureate Remember, please, the following letters to the editor that were printed, promoting public displays of outrage at the verdicts (to the exclusion of letters expressing outrage at the Daily and the defense team): Tammy Varnagatis, Halbrooks' secretary Linda Kubina, free-lance loose cannon Nancy Gillespie, DWM's aunt Belinda L. Thurman, DUI CLass of '82 Jerry Hamilton, BL's Admirer David W. Kelley, Youngduck Roger Payne, Laughingstock and Bill Owens, Brother's brother-in-law. A motley crew, I must say. Incidentally, by the Daily's own account, it took just an hour for the jury to return four guilty verdicts following their alleged "DEADLOCK"... and there were DEADLOCK headline papers at the courthouse before the the verdicts... so I wonder how it is they were able to know about the alleged DEADLOCK before it even happened... (or didn't, as the case may be)... and how many other stories of events were written before they ever took place? Is that evidence of incompetence? Or is it malice? Or both? I've provided links off most fan club page members... but not for Sheryl Marsh. Why? Because her articles in the newspaper have been so heavily edited for the on-line edition and archives that they're not really her articles anymore. They've tried to clean up their little crime scene the best they can...
Sometimes I get the impression that people in Decatur think everybody is entitled to their own "investigation" of Karen's death-- except for the Decatur Police Department, of course. The REAL investigation took 18 months of very hard work, and it was subjected to a level of scrutiny only present in a capital murder trial. After 3 1/2 years of delays (forensics and lawyers), the investigation was "put on trial"...with three weeks of circus atmosphere and offensive personal attacks from an unethical defense team. When it was all done, DWM was convicted on four counts of capital murder and sentenced to death--consistent with the law and the weight of the evidence. And although DPD has been ACCUSED (by the defense lawyers, the DWM fan club, the press, and the general public) of all manner of wrong-doing, throughout the process there has been NOT ONE RULING THAT DPD AND CHIEF INVESTIGATOR MIKE PETTEY EVER DID ANYTHING WRONG!!!!!! NOT ONE TIME!!! I think people might find this revelation SHOCKING!!!!! Personally, I find it OFFENSIVE--when City Hall's chronic complainers are given greater weight in the press than THE SIMPLE TRUTH.
