Diane Murphy, who cleans houses in Danville, claims to have had three chance encounters with Karen just prior to her death, each time being threatened by a maniac. She also claims to have discovered the grave of another woman killed in Decatur, and to have been approached by both "murderers" herself--one wanting to know if she "saw anything back there" and the other wanting a date. She identified Karen on the basis of a photograph on TV that didn't exist, identified the home on the basis of the crime scene tape which didn't exist, and volunteered her information for the first time just after DWM was sentenced to death. The Daily gave her three consecutive front page stories, each more comical than the last.
Diane Murphy is well-known to local police, City Hall, and the courthouse. She has been charged previously with assaulting a neighbor over a mailbox argument, and for resisting arrest and attempting to assault a police officer. She is a well-known "courthouse queen," a marginal eccentric absent any credibility whatsoever. She claims Karen Tipton had a stalker, and told no one but her, a bag lady in Kmart. Catherine Halbrooks claims she is credible, knowing there was no photo of Karen on TV the day after the murder. Sheryl Marsh and the Decatur Daily did their best to promote the "new evidence of cover-up" but simply looked like FOOLS in their own paper.
Diane Murphy claims she reported her "sightings" to DPD, that an unknown officer took her to the Tipton home, took her statement, then never called her again. And THIS is the best Brother and Halbrooks could come up with... NEW EVIDENCE NEW EVIDENCE CRUCIAL AND EXCULPATORY TO DWM!!! NEW EVIDENCE OF POLICE COVER-UP!!!!! Brother Powell joked to the Huntsville Times he was looking for Mork as a new witness. They think this is funny. I don't.
