| The Daily calls it The Email Scandal. Step 1 The Daily runs an article: County Commissioner Stacy George accuses Amanda Scott and others of misconduct on al.com. Although he has obtained al.com IP addresses and such, he has zero evidence to back up his actual claims. The Daily’s publicity of the al.com Decatur forum led to an explosion of posts there, and further scathing criticism of George, Glasscock, and the Decatur Daily. The chairman of the county commission blocked access to al.com on most courthouse computers. Step 2 Channel 19’s Greg Privett gets a copy of a soft-porn email that had been forwarded from head of HR to the chairman of the county commission to the mayor. The commission responds by firing the head of HR, and ordering an investigation into all county employees’ computers. They want to investigate the so-called breach of security, when no breach was required to get Glasscock's email. For some reason, they have special interest in the question of whether things have been deleted from specific users’ computers. Step 3 County Commission Chairman Pro Tem Stacy George demands actual computer hard drives from a series of elected officials, including the Sheriff, the Probate Judge, and the Revenue Commissioner, Amanda Scott. All three have taken steps to protect confidential information. Sheryl Marsh would have you believe Amanda Scott is interfering with a criminal investigation. Reality check Stacy George accused Amanda Scott of spending “hours saying bad things about him on the al.com forum during work hours. He claimed he could prove it with some records of IP address “hits on al.com, which was simply not true. Even if it WERE true, it would not be illegal, nor would it necessarily be inappropriate. It started with Stacy George attacking Amanda Scott with unfounded accusations, courtesy of Sheryl Marsh and the Decatur Daily. Then, (insignificant, blown out of proportion) misconduct on the part of the Chairman of the County Commission led to Stacy George becoming chairman pro tem to lead the political investigation into the “EMAIL SCANDAL.⠀ The target of the “investigation resulting from Chairman Glasscock’s misconduct seems to be Amanda Scott. Somehow that’s supposed to make sense. They’re looking for evidence Amanda Scott deleted something. Huh? (Are Windows Utilities not allowed?) I have a feeling Amanda Scott's hard drive will be spotlessly clean, and that will be "proof" that she must have deleted something sordid from it. And Sheryl Marsh quotes Stacy George as saying Amanda Scott is out of control. I think it’s primarily the Decatur Daily that’s out of control, along with anyone that would base an opinion on anything written there. Yes, it’s convoluted, stupid, and entirely contrived. It’s just a replay of Catherine Halbrooks—another bull in a china shop telling Sheryl Marsh what she likes to hear. Halbrooks surely managed to spread some pain with the Decatur Daily, but it didn’t seem to help her political aspirations. |
